Chin and Cheek Implants

Chin Implant and Cheek Implants New Jersey

Cheek implants and/or a chin implant can give you higher cheekbones or a more prominent chin to balance your facial features. Implants are available in a variety of materials to enhance your jaw line, chin, or cheekbones. The size and shape of your implants are customized to match the outcome you want, and the results are usually subtle.

Men and women of any age who believe they have a weak chin or flat cheeks can have chin implant surgery or cheek implant surgery. For example, a teenager with a prominent nose and weak chin might wish to enhance his or her chin to better balance the nose. A more mature patient may want cheek implants during a facelift for a more youthful appearance.

The results of chin and cheek implants are permanent.

Your Consultation

A consultation for chin implant surgery or cheek implants includes a thorough discussion of your desires, expectations, and concerns as well as its limits and risks. Your surgeon will review your medical history and discuss your options with you. He or she will take pictures of your face. During your examination, your surgeon will consider the balance between all your features, including your nose, cheeks, chin, brow bone, and overall shape and size of your face.

The Procedure

In most cases, the procedure is performed in our ambulatory surgery center under a mild general anesthetic called twilight anesthesia. The surgery usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. You can go home a few hours after your procedure.

Cheek implant incisions are typically made inside your mouth or near your hairline. Chin implant incisions are generally made inside your lower lip or under your chin. These placements allow the scars to remain hidden. Dissolvable stitches are used whenever possible.

Recovery and Results

You will receive thorough written instructions to prepare for and recover from your surgery. Most patients describe minimal discomfort after the surgery, which can be managed with oral over-the-counter or prescription medication. You can expect some bruising, swelling, tingling, and tightness for about 2 weeks.

You will be sent home with dressings on the incisions. You also will be asked to sleep sitting up for at least a couple of nights to reduce swelling.

You will be able to return to work and nonstrenuous activities about a week after your procedure. It may take a few weeks to months before you feel completely comfortable smiling. While you will see the results of your procedure as soon as most of the swelling has subsided, you will not be able to see full results for 1 to 3 months.
