Breast Lift With Implants
Breast Lift With Implants New Jersey
Pregnancy, nursing, and the effects of age and gravity can cause breasts to lose volume, sag, and change shape. Breast lift (or mastopexy) with implants raises and reshapes sagging breasts. It also can make small breasts firmer and fuller.
If you want to enhance the size, contour, and feel of your breasts while also lifting sagging breasts, a breast lift with implants might be right for you. The goal of a breast lift and breast augmentation (breast enlargement) is to create fuller, firmer, natural-looking breasts that will increase your self-confidence and help your clothes fit better.
Because pregnancy typically enlarges the breasts and causes sagging, we do not recommend breast lift with implants if you plan to become pregnant.
Your Consultation
A consultation for breast lift with implants includes a discussion of how you would like your breasts to look. Your surgeon will answer your questions and address your concerns. He or she also will examine you and tell you about the different types and shapes of breast implants and recommend implants that are appropriate for your age, the size and shape of your breasts, condition of your skin, and overall anatomy. Your surgeon also will recommend saline or silicone implants and explain the limits and risks of the procedure.
The Procedure
A breast lift with implants usually takes 2 to 3 hours. It can be performed in our office operating suite or as an outpatient procedure at the hospital. You will be given either local anesthesia with intravenous sedation or general anesthesia.
The surgical technique for breast lift with implants depends on your anatomy and the amount of lift needed to achieve your goals. Excess skin will be removed and your nipples and breasts will be lifted higher on your chest. Incisions must usually be made on the top of the breasts to relocate the areola and nipple. As a result, there is visible scarring. Most scars fade considerably over time, but women with darker or thicker skin are likely to always see the scars somewhat. You will probably receive dissolvable stitches.
If you have relatively small breasts and minimal sagging, you may be a candidate for smaller incisions. For the implants, a pocket is created under each breast. The implants are then placed behind or in front of the chest muscles, depending on whether you have chosen saline or silicone implants.
Recovery and Results
You will receive thorough written instructions to help you prepare for and recover from your surgery. These instructions will tell you how to prevent infection and recommend when to follow up with your surgeon.
Most women can go home a few hours after surgery. You will be required to wear an elastic bandage or surgical bra over gauze dressings. You also will be instructed about how and when to change the dressings.
Bruising and soreness is usually minimal for several days, but swelling may last for a few weeks to several months. For this reason, it will take time to see the final results of your surgery. You will, however, see an immediate improvement in the way your breasts look. You can manage any discomfort with oral over-the-counter or prescription medication when needed.
You should be able to return to work within a week after your surgery. You will be required to wear a surgical bra and limit your activities for several weeks. Until your surgeon tells you otherwise, you should sleep only on your back and avoid lifting anything heavy or exercising vigorously for about a month. Regular examinations and routine mammograms can help ensure that any complications are detected and treated early.
While your breasts can sag again as a result of aging and weight fluctuations, the results of a breast lift with implants is long lasting. Most women are thrilled with the results of their breast lift with implants.
