Thermage®
Thermage New Jersey
Thermage® (ThermaCool) is a nonsurgical facial rejuvenation procedure that tightens aging skin and reduces acne, broken blood vessels, rosacea, fine lines, wrinkles, and scars.
Originally developed for facial skin, the treatment is now FDA approved for use on any part of the body, including the eyelids, hands, arms, legs, and torso. Thermage also can improve the appearance of crow’s feet, loose jowls, and textured skin.
Thermage is suitable for men and women of any age. Sometimes called a nonsurgical face lift or instant face lift, Thermage provides results that are less dramatic than a surgical facelift.
Your Consultation
A consultation for Thermage treatment includes a thorough discussion of your desires, expectations, and concerns. Your plastic surgeon also will tell you about the limits and risks of the procedure. He will then review your medical history and carefully examine your skin.
The Procedure
Thermage is not an injection. In Thermage treatments, a radio frequency is applied that safely heats the deepest layers of your skin. The top layers of your skin remain cool. The heat activates your body’s natural renewal process. As a result, collagen production increases, loose skin tightens, and you will see an improvement in acne as well as rosacea, scars, broken blood vessels, fine lines, and wrinkles.
No anesthesia is needed, but a topical formula to prevent discomfort is applied to the treatment area. If you wish, you can choose to take a sedative.
One treatment typically lasts about 30 minutes. To ensure your comfort, you will be given a cool pack or mask to place on the treated area immediately after your procedure.
Recovery and Results
Summit Medical Group will give you thorough written instructions to prepare for and recover from Thermage. Most patients can resume activities the day after treatment. You can expect some swelling and minimal bruising for a few days.
You can expect to see results within a few weeks. Full results can take 4 to 6 months. Results vary depending on the condition of the skin, your skin type, and your age. For most patients, only one treatment is needed.
After Thermage, you should:
- Gently cleanse the treated area with a mild soap and pat it dry
- Apply antibiotic ointment
- Apply a cool mask or pack to reduce inflammation
- Avoid sun exposure
