Facial Spider Veins
Laser Treatment for Facial Spider Veins New Jersey
Spider veins and broken blood vessels (capillaries) on the face affect millions of people. Although they cause no medical problems, they can detract from the natural beauty of your skin.
Genetics, sun exposure, and strong facial cleansers can cause broken capillaries. Spicy foods, hot beverages, alcohol, and extreme weather can aggravate the condition.
Laser technology can reduce the appearance of broken capillaries and spider veins on the face without damaging the surrounding skin. Rosacea, small hemangiomas, port wine stains, and cherry hemangiomas also can be treated with lasers.
Your Consultation
A consultation for laser treatment for broken blood vessels on the face begins with a discussion of your desires and concerns. Your surgeon will carefully examine your face and explain the procedure to you, including the limits and risks. He or she will estimate how many treatments you will need to achieve your desired result.
The Procedure
Summit Medical Group uses the most technologically advanced lasers available. Laser treatment for broken facial blood vessels is a nonsurgical, noninvasive procedure that takes 10 to 20 minutes.
The laser gently destroys and closes the broken capillaries. Then, your body gradually absorbs the treated veins until they are no longer visible. Because the laser only causes a slight stinging sensation, there is no need for anesthesia during your procedure.
Recovery and Results
Discomfort from laser treatment on the face is minimal. You may experience slight swelling of the treated area(s), especially under the eyes. This usually subsides the next day. Some patients report crusting of the skin for a few days after the blood vessels have been treated.
Most patients can return to normal activities immediately; however, vigorous exercise should be avoided for 2 to 3 days.
Some blood vessels disappear immediately after treatment, whereas others fade or disappear within several weeks of the procedure. Occasionally, treated blood vessels disappear and return later. Many people require more than one treatment to clear all of their broken capillaries and spider veins.
After your procedure:
- Avoid products that irritate or sting your skin
- Use gentle cleansers and moisturizers that do not contain alcohol
- Limit sun exposure and always wear sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher
