Botox Cosmetic®
Botox® New Jersey
Botox® is an exciting facial rejuvenation treatment that corrects or softens minor wrinkles. Given in an injection, it weakens and disables muscles of the face that create facial lines. Botox is the most common cosmetic procedure performed in the United States today.
Although Botox consists of a protein related to botulism, it is safe when used in small doses. In fact, it has been used for many years to treat medical conditions such as muscle spasms. Botox side effects are very rare.
The facial lines that respond best to Botox injections include:
- Forehead creases
- Frown lines
- Crow’s feet
- Eye wrinkles
- Vertical wrinkles on the upper lip
- Lines across the bridge of the nose
Your Consultation
Consultation for Botox injections includes a thorough discussion of your desires, expectations, and concerns. Your doctor will show you which lines on your face can be corrected with Botox. Then he will carefully examine your face, eyes, and forehead and take pictures of the areas to be treated. To create a completely rejuvenated look, you may combine Botox injections with dermal fillers.
The Procedure
The needle used for Botox injections is very fine. For this reason, most patients suggest the treatment is almost painless. Your plastic surgeon can give you the injections in the office. There is no need for an anesthetic.
Botox injections are only targeted to small areas. In some cases, several injections are needed to treat all the lines.
Recovery and Results
After your treatment, you may go home or to work the same day. You may begin wearing makeup right away. Some people experience slight tenderness or mild bruising for a day or 2 after getting Botox.
The effects of Botox can take up to 2 weeks to become fully visible. For this reason, no one is likely to notice that you have had a cosmetic procedure.
Because results are not permanent, Botox injections must be repeated every 3 to 4 months. Patients who have had repeated Botox injections in the same area might be able to wait slightly longer between treatments.
